ruby-from-sun-moon-lake-black-tea
Ruby from Sun Moon Lake Black Tea
This prizewinning Taiwanese black tea represents over fifty years of dedicated cultivation work. Ruby is the result of a carefully orchestrated breeding programme that crossed a wild Sun Moon Lake mountain tea with a Burmese cultivar, creating something genuinely distinctive.

What makes Ruby exceptional is its natural cinnamon fragrance and rich, malty character—a complexity rarely found in black teas. Tea experts recognise its unique "Taiwan fragrance" as something altogether special, distinct amongst thousands of black tea varieties worldwide. Once you've experienced its aroma, it lingers with you long afterwards.

The tea's heritage is equally compelling. In 2003, the Taiwan Tea Research and Extension Station celebrated its centennial by naming this cultivar 'Ruby' through public vote—a fitting tribute to a century of tea mastery.

Ruby works beautifully either way. With milk, use 3g or a heaped teaspoon per person and brew for five minutes. Black, following Chinese tradition, use just 2g with a three-minute infusion—and the leaves reward you with three to four further brewings.

Sun Moon Lake itself carries centuries of legend, nestled amongst mist-shrouded mountains where, according to local lore, a couple once retrieved the sun and moon from dragons to restore light to their village. That same terroir shapes every cup of Ruby.
