This handmade cast Copper kettle from Japan is a new line for us. Styled in the same way as the more well known cast iron kettles, but adding an opulence and charm due to the patination that will emerge as the kettle is used over the years. One can only imagine the work that goes into making something like this. It is possible to see the highly skilled craftsman's work in every mark in and outside of the pot, as it is possible to understand an artist's individual brush marks. As copper pots are made by hand, it is possible that there are slight imperfections which, however, highlight the nature of this high-quality handiwork and are not considered to be faults. For example, the bottoms of copper pots are not as flat as other materials due to the soft nature of copper. Copper has been used and cherished for around 9,000 years. Pots that are made of copper are ideal heat conductors; the material is durable, hygienic and corrosion-resistant. Above all, it is the excellent heat conductivity that makes copper a perfect base material for pots and pans. It is widely known that copper conducts heat five times better than iron and even twenty times better than stainless steel. Thanks to the excellent heat conductivity properties, the heat spreads more evenly in copper cookware than in traditional pots and pans. When copper is heated up, its colour changes to different shades. Over time, copper cookware develops a patina. This is a completely natural process but is reversible if a copper polish is used to restore its original colour. Personally I love the patination! This pure copper pot can be used as a tea pot or a kettle, ornamented with a beautiful carved oriental script and a water lily.
