This tea, Takeru from a garden of Kirishima, is one of Japan's very best Gyokuro teas. It has fine, feathery leaves of an emerald green hue that brew into a rich, sweet, velvety infusion with a beautiful lemon green colour. The infusion appears delightfully cloudy — a sign of the tea's abundant essential oils emulsifying in the water.
Known as 'Precious Dew', this special Japanese tea is shaded with reed screens for twenty days before harvesting, a process that deepens its chlorophyll and amino acid content. It's this amino acid, called theanine, combined with traditional processing techniques, that creates Gyokuro's signature sweet flavour and intense aroma. The result is a tea of remarkable complexity and character.
Gyokuro is the most highly prized tea in Japan, revered for its sophistication and depth. Each cup offers something truly exceptional — a taste of Japanese tea-making at its finest.
