Earl Grey Tea

Few teas have captured the imagination quite like Earl Grey. That unmistakable fragrance of bergamot, bright, citrusy and wonderfully aromatic, has made it one of the world's most celebrated flavoured teas. And yet, beneath that familiar name lies a surprising variety of styles.

For us, a truly great Earl Grey is all about balance. The distinctive character of bergamot should complement the tea beneath it, rather than overwhelm it. That's why we use the finest cold-pressed bergamot oil, rather than artificial flavourings, capturing the beautifully fresh, vibrant fragrance of the fruit itself. Whether the tea base is rich and full-bodied or beautifully light and delicate, the result should be a harmonious marriage of fragrance and flavour.

At Imperial Teas, our fascination with flavoured teas stretches right back to the beginnings of the business in 1991. Earl Grey has always been a particular pleasure to explore, from reassuringly traditional interpretations to our own distinctive variations on this enduring classic.

There is something rather special about that first fragrant rush as the hot water meets the leaves. Familiar, comforting and yet, in the finest examples, remarkably sophisticated.

A great Earl Grey is more than a tea with a lovely perfume. It's a beautiful partnership of flavours, and one we never tire of.
