Every year, we're honoured to secure selections from Taiwan's annual Oriental Beauty competition—teas that achieve First Class status, a distinction earned by just 2% of all entrants. These champion oolongs are extraordinary.
The first sip reveals why experts consider Oriental Beauty amongst the world's finest teas. You'll encounter a perfectly balanced cup: sweet, ripe fruit meets delicate florals with a lingering aftertaste that seems to go on and on. Notes of apricot, honey, rose, sandalwood and gardenia weave through each infusion, shifting subtly as the tea cools.
What makes these teas truly special is their genesis. For a brief window each summer in Taiwan's Hsinchu and Miaoli counties, a small insect feeds on emerging buds and triggers a natural process that concentrates flavour and fragrance whilst increasing the tea's natural polyphenols. No pesticides can be used—the magic lies entirely in nature's chemistry. This is why the dry leaves shimmer with gold, green, brown, black and silvery white.
Master tea craftspeople, drawing on decades of experience, carefully oxidise and roast each batch to coax out these remarkable flavours. Four to five thousand individual bud and leaf sets go into each 600g—twice the amount required for other premium oolongs.
The competition judges award marks across colour, flavour, aftertaste and leaf appearance, recognising the artistry behind every cup.
When brewed Gong Fu style, these leaves will yield up to ten infusions, each one rewarding your patience with deepening complexity and an increasingly intense fragrance that lingers long after the pot empties.
