Salmiak Chocolate Covered Liquorice

Salmiak is one of the boldest flavours in the Lakrids by Bülow range.

At the centre is salty liquorice, coated in creamy white chocolate and finished with sugar and liquorice powder. As the chocolate melts, little pockets of raw liquorice powder come through, giving a striking contrast between sweetness, creaminess and that unmistakable salty salmiak character. Lakrids by Bülow describes it as a perfectly balanced sweet-salty experience.

This is definitely one for people who enjoy flavour with a bit of edge. The white chocolate softens the intensity at first, then the salty liquorice builds underneath, followed by a deeper, more aromatic liquorice finish.

For us, that layered progression is exactly what makes it interesting. It has the sort of contrast we look for in tea and coffee: sweetness, bitterness, saltiness and depth, all working against each other rather than simply tasting sweet.

I’d pair this with strong black tea, Assam, smoky teas or a richer roasted coffee. The fuller flavours in the drink stand up well to the salmiak and help bring out the chocolate.
