The name Hattiali is derived from the Assamese words "Hatti Alli", meaning literally the elephant is coming down the road, so called on account of a neighbouring elephant camp.

The name "Hattiali" is derived from the Assamese words "Hatti Alli", meaning literally the elephant is coming down the road, so called on account of a neighbouring elephant camp. We buy this tea from one of a number of gardens in the area who grow the famous P126A clonal tea bush, renowned for producing golden tippy teas which have the right balance between briskness and mellowness. Its factory was the first in Assam to be awarded the prestigious ISO 9002 certification in 1996. With a clonal area of 164 hectares out of a total of 405 hectares under plantation, Hattiali produces around a million kg annually. It is famous for golden tippy high-quality Orthodox teas.
