Our most popular Sri Lankan tea manages to capture all of the qualities of the Uva district tea growing area. It has the richness and colour of the mid-elevation teas, which carry notes of black treacle, currants and plum, and the fine high notes that evoke grapefruit zest, minty menthol tones and a green wood edge. Grown 3,000 to 5,000 feet up on the eastern slopes of Sri Lanka's central mountains, teas from the Uva district have a distinctive flavour and pungency and are widely used in many blends. They also deserve to be enjoyed as a self-drinking tea, especially during the Uva quality season from July to September each year, which is when we select our teas. Uva is Sri Lanka's remotest province, access to its provincial capital, Badulla, is only possible over steep, winding mountain roads. Uva plantations are exposed to the winds of both northeast and southwest monsoons believed to endow the tea produced there with a special, unmistakable character and exotically aromatic flavour. 1321
