DARK & SEA SALT CHOCOLATE COVERED LIQUORICE

This is one of the more grown-up flavours in the Lakrids by Bülow range, and exactly the sort of confectionery we think belongs alongside good tea and coffee.

At the centre is soft, sweet liquorice, coated with a blend of dark and milk chocolate and finished with small flakes of sea salt. The chocolate brings richness and a slight bitterness, the liquorice adds depth and sweetness, and the salt sharpens everything beautifully.

What we particularly like is the way the flavour develops rather than simply tasting “sweet”. First comes smooth chocolate, then the deeper liquorice character, with the sea salt appearing at the finish and making you want to go back for another piece.

It is rather like tasting a well-balanced coffee or tea: contrasting flavours arrive in stages, but everything works together. For that reason, Dark & Sea Salt is one of the easiest Lakrids flavours to pair with a drink.

I’d particularly enjoy it with a rich black tea, an Assam or breakfast blend, or with a rounded medium-to-dark roast coffee. The dark chocolate and liquorice sit especially well with roasted, malty and caramelised flavours.

Ingredients: 63% dark and milk chocolate (cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk powder, emulsifiers: soya lecithin, lecithin; natural vanilla flavour), rice flour, sugar, invert sugar syrup, treacle, glucose syrup, 1% raw liquorice, 1% sea salt, rapeseed oil, salt, glazing agents (gum arabic, shellac), cocoa butter, anise oil.

Dark chocolate contains a minimum of 70% cocoa solids. Milk chocolate contains a minimum of 34% cocoa solids and 18% milk solids. Gluten free.
