In 1848, the British East India Company sent Robert Fortune on a spying trip to China's interior, an area forbidden to foreigners. His mission was to steal the secrets of tea horticulture and manufacturing, not to mention valuable tea rootstock. In a brave act of espionage, he donned a disguise and headed into the Wu Si Shan hills. This trip revealed many things and ultimately led to the planting of tea in India. In tribute to Robert Fortune's travels as a botanist, we have blended four of the most precious teas grown in the countries he visited. Each tea possesses delicious characteristics that are worth exploring individually but in a blend offer a complex, exotic flavour that captures the diversity of the continents from which they come. With hints of cocoa, rose, caramel, sweet tobacco, 'Muscatel', honey and frankincense, this tea will keep the most discerning palate intrigued for years.
