The design of the matcha bowl Kuro Oribe dates back to the 16th century and is based on the Japanese Tea master named Furuta Oribe. Characteristics of the Oribe style are those that occur randomly, colour contrasts that result from the oxidation process at 1220 degrees Celsius. The surface of the Matcha bowl is untreated and slightly roughened in some places due to the rapid cooling process with others covered with a glaze. Each item is unique so photo for general impression only.

This was produced in the famous pottery region of Mino, in the prefecture of Gifu in central Japan. The pottery called Mino-Yaki has been produced for over 1000 years.
