LEMON MYRTLE HERBAL TEA
Lemon myrtle tea is made from the leaves of a wild tree that grows naturally in the Australian coastal regions. While the tree’s flowers and fruits can both be eaten, it is the leaves that have gained a reputation for having the most uses and health benefits. The leaves of lemon myrtle are rich in essential oil, most of which is made up of terpenoid aldehyde family such as citral. Citral, the same compound found in lemons is used medicinally in a number of ways. Interestingly, there is more lemon flavour in myrtle than lemons! It is this ingredient that gives lemon myrtle many of its alleged health benefits. You only have to smell it to feel better! It is in short supply due to high demand both as a tea and for extracting its essential oils. It is delicious drunk on its own but works well added to any other tea or herb by giving its delightful, sweet, fragrant character to a blend.
