LIQUORICE ROOT HERBAL TEA

Liquorice root adds a natural sweetness to any tea without the calories. Add just a small amount to any tea and enjoy the pleasant sweet, soothing aftertaste. The distinctive flavour of liquorice is largely due to a flavour compound called anethole, which is also found in anise, fennel (both in the botanical family Apiaceae), anise myrtle (Myrtaceae), liquorice (Fabaceae), camphor, magnolia blossoms, and star anise (Illiciaceae). Another flavour compound, adding to its complex character is estragole, also found in tarragon (Asteraceae) and basil (Lamiaceae). Drunk in moderation it is thought to have many health benefits but is best avoided if you have clinically diagnosed high blood pressure.
