A Lel Chaung Natural Catuai – Southern Shan State, Myanmar

This exceptional coffee comes from the village of A Lel Chaung in Ywangan, Southern Shan State, Myanmar. It’s produced by the Shwe Taung Thu (Golden Farmer) group — a cooperative made up of around 180 smallholder households from the Danu and Pa-O ethnic groups. The co-op supports local farmers by providing fair trade conditions, shared processing infrastructure, and quality-focused training.

This lot is processed using a dry natural method. Ripe Catuai cherries are hand-picked, sorted to remove underripe or damaged fruit, and dried on raised beds in the region’s warm, dry climate. These conditions are ideal for developing sweetness and clarity in natural coffees.

In the cup, expect a juicy, fruit-forward profile with bright red berry and redcurrant notes. These are complemented by smooth layers of vanilla and caramel, giving the coffee sweetness and a silky body. The acidity is clean and balanced, and the finish is long and elegant — a refined natural coffee that shows both vibrancy and polish.

Beyond quality, this coffee represents a growing movement of community-driven specialty production in Myanmar — one that prioritises sustainability, traceability, and producer empowerment. A Lel Chaung is not just a great cup — it’s coffee with purpose.
