PANAMA ALTIERI COFFEE SCAA SCORE: 91.75
This Catuai varietal, anaerobic slow dry comes from Altieri Specialty Coffee, a family-run business based in Boquete, Panama. Founded by Eugene Altieri in 2005, the company is now led by his children, who continue to invest in quality-driven farming and experimental processing. The Rola plot, where this coffee was grown, sits at 1750 metres and is unique within the Mima Estate for its full-day sun exposure - ideal for slow, even cherry development.
Harvested on 6 January 2025, cherries were sorted by density using a mechanical siphon at the Alto Lino processing facility. They then underwent a 72-hour anaerobic fermentation in sealed tanks before being moved to raised beds inside a greenhouse, where they dried slowly over 28 days. Once dried, the coffee was rested in a temperature- and humidity-controlled warehouse before export.
This lot is a clear example of the Altieri family’s precise, hands-on approach to processing and their commitment to innovation at origin.
This is a vibrant, high-scoring coffee packed with floral and fruit complexity. Expect bold notes of hibiscus, orange blossom and raspberry, layered with grape and sauvignon-like acidity. It's clean and winey, with a long finish of white tea and stone fruit.
Altieri Specialty Coffee is a family business founded in 2005 by Eugene Altieri, an Italian-American entrepreneur who moved to Panama in 1973. Nearly two decades ago, Eugene acquired two farms in Boquete without knowing their potential for cultivating specialty coffee.
Today, Eugene's children continue his legacy, working with a professional team to expand the Altieri Specialty Coffee brand, always focused on achieving the highest quality for their customers. For the Altieri family, coffee is not just a business; it's a passion.
