PASSION FRUIT CHOCOLATE COVERED LIQUORICE

This is probably one of the best examples of why Lakrids by Bülow works so well in our range. It has the sort of balance and progression of flavour we normally look for in tea and coffee rather than confectionery.

At the centre is soft sweet liquorice, coated in creamy white chocolate with passion fruit, then finished with a delicate crunchy sugar shell. The passion fruit gives a bright, tangy acidity, the chocolate brings sweetness and richness, and the liquorice pulls everything together underneath. Lakrids by Bülow describes it as fruity and crispy, with that characteristic sweet-and-sour balance. 

What makes it especially good is that it never tastes one-dimensional. You get tropical fruit first, then creamy white chocolate, followed by the deeper liquorice finish. It is lively, fresh and sophisticated rather than simply sweet.

For us, that makes it a natural accompaniment to tea or coffee. I’d especially pair it with fragrant green teas, lightly oxidised oolongs or a bright, fruit-led coffee, where the passion fruit acidity can really shine.

Sweet liquorice coated with passion fruit, white chocolate and sugar:

54% white chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk powder, emulsifiers: soy lecithin, lecithin; natural vanilla flavour), 21% sugar, rice flour, invert sugar syrup, treacle, glucose syrup, 2% passion fruit (freeze-dried), 1% raw liquorice, glazing agents: gum arabic, carnauba wax, shellac, rapeseed oil, acid: malic acid, natural flavour, salt, colours: calcium carbonate, beta-carotene, stabiliser: gum arabic, anise oil.

White chocolate contains a minimum of 26% cocoa solids.
