PINK PINEAPPLE CHOCOLATE COVERED LIQUORICE
Lakrids by Bülow has been a personal favourite of ours for some time. What makes these extraordinary little treats so appealing is the sophistication of the flavour: rather like a really good tea or coffee, each piece develops as you taste it, with sweetness, acidity, fruit, chocolate and liquorice revealing themselves in turn.
Pink Pineapple is a particularly delicious example.
At its heart is soft, sweet liquorice, surrounded by creamy white chocolate flavoured with bright, exotic pineapple, then finished with a delicate pink sugar shell. The first impression is fruity and fresh, followed by the richness of white chocolate before the deeper liquorice character comes through underneath.
It is sweet, certainly, but beautifully balanced. The gentle tang of pineapple stops the white chocolate becoming cloying, while the liquorice gives the whole thing depth and a wonderfully long finish.

Try Pink Pineapple with a fragrant green or lightly oxidised oolong tea, where the fruitier notes can shine, or alongside a bright, aromatic coffee. It also makes a rather luxurious little treat with an afternoon pot of tea.
